SAME WORLD, DIFFERENT ANGLES…

April 23, 2009 @ 10:00 AM - Paulo's Portugese

The other day I was thinking about something to write for my blog, and I had the idea of write about how we (riders) have a particular way, different of the common people, of see and use the constructed/urban world that surround us, we seem to see another world, and have another perspective of how to use the urban world obstacles.
You just get the idea of what I’m trying to write about. I’m talking about that day when you’re driving your car, or travelling in the bus, and you just see that unbelievable curved wall, look twice and close your yes dreaming about the feeling of doing a curved wall ride along all the wall, then you look to the guy or girl standing next to you, and they don’t see nothing in particular in that wall that claim they’re attention, for they is just a wall nothing more. This is just one example, and explain the different world perception between the ones that ride and the ones that just cruise the street living their life’s. We just tend to develop some sort of special eye-seeing… for us that curb or that bench, rail, handicap-ramp, set of stairs, that wood abandoned palette make a great launch ramp for some wall rides or other tricks (like Ruben Alcantara and the fly crew show to us…). etc., etc., all this can represent hours of riding pleasure.
I can go forever, because the list is almost infinite.
I recently turned 38…. And I always find myself doing this when walking down the road, by foot, car, or in the bus. This is in fact a characteristic that most of the so call common people doesn’t have, the capacity of looking to the most common object facing them on the street and see something from other world. Rodney Mullen talked about this same feeling in “Public Domain” 20 years ago…
