REPO: BURY ST EDMONDS JAM
Date: July 20, 2008
Location: Bury St. Edmonds, Suffolk, UK
Words and Photos: James Weston
First of all, I’m going to tell you right now: I find contest/events a mixed bag of buttons. I often don’t enjoy them, and as for coverage/write-ups of such events, I enjoy them even less! I know, it’s a salty intro, but it’s also an explanation for why I’m going to keep this brief.
Anyway, the Bury Jam just went down (just about) in between spurts of rain, and it was a belter. No bad vibes, kids shredding, peeps going upside down, and just everybody having a grand old time in the name of BMX/skateboarding. It really made me feel like BMX is in such a good situation at the moment. The quality of the riding, the products, the community and the sheer popularity! It astounds me! It’s like the ‘80s all over again. Neon bikes and plastic pedals ahoy! Sentimental cliche sentence over.
Sorry, I’ve got no results or who did what list. Just a few photos and the reassurance that events like this exist (in fact thrive) and this is what it’s all about.
Thanks to people like Jay (Hardcore Hobbies owner/hardcore vocal extraordinaire) running roots BMX shops and amazing events, thus creating/sustaining BMX scenes/communities in their towns, and this is what’s happening right across the country!
Get ya ass to Bury. Great scene, lovely town, even better shop!
