SHOOTER: BRENDAN VAIL

Name: Brendan Vail
Age: 24 years old
Location: I am originally from Rockland County NY, but I live in Portland, OR now

How long have you been shooting?
I have been shooting for about 5 or 6 years probably.

Film or digital?
I shoot film because I don’t have any money for a digital camera, or a new film camera for that matter. I can always find good deals on film somehow; still, it’s expensive processing, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I also have good luck with finding things, remember to check garbages kids!

Best thing you’ve ever shot?
I really like a lot of my old photos from my trails back In the day.  Probably more so because of how fun those times were, along with the FBM ghetto comps. Those were some good times.

Fave rider to shoot with?
I mainly just like shooting with my friends Scott McMenamin, Hayston “Rocket” Sheppard, Austin “Pon Digga” PaVaun, Dan Frisbee, Tyler Short, Max Anderson Young, Jesse Whaley, Chet Blacksmith, and all 15 Andrews that ride BMX in Portland.

Dream rider to shoot with?
I mainly just like shooting with my friends, maybe like Van Homan or some other bad ass mofo. Like Big Daddy.

What do you tell security when the try to throw you out of spots for taking pics?
I usually just try to book it as quick as possible, those guys tend to get wild sometimes. I can’t be buying new equipment all the time!

Fave BMX photographer?
Rob Dolecki does lots of cool stuff, his B&W shots are always really cool. Sandy Carson is dope too.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Hopefully I’ll be employed and not eating from the Salvation Army on Burnside. I have an internship doing Graphic Design for Nike Sparq and that’s what I’m going to school for, so something along those lines.

Where can we see more of your work?
I have photos in Session BMX magazine bi-monthly, and I put some shots up on the blog at Lotekbrand.com as well as Your-Inn.com pretty regularly.  Hopefully my site will be up soon too at Brendanvail.com but for now you can peep the flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/brendanvail/
