'Interpretaciones Del Oso'
(Suicide Squeeze Records)
This, per se, is not a new Minus The Bear album. It's a remix album, culled from the most recent Minus The Bear album 'Menos El Oso.' The folks, or bears, passed their album around to select friends, DJs and other bands to deconstruct the songs assembled on their last album.
Normally, remix albums don't really hold too much weight for me. I'm not good with changing something that I like, especially a song. But fortunately, Minus The Bear aren't your average grandiose, look at me love me act that would expect their fans to get up and dance at seedy New York clubs. Minus the Bear likes to challenge their fans, and for that, I applaud 'Interpretaciones Del Oso.' Featured on this album are all of the tracks from 'Menos El Oso,' interpreted by the likes of Dalek, Jay Clark of Pretty Girls Make Graves, Morgan Henderson of Blood Brothers, Yuuki Mathews of Crystal Skulls, and a handful of other DJ acts that don't ring a bell with me cause I'm dumb that way.
Deconstructing the trusted songs is a unique way for Minus The Bear to share their music not only with fans, but with other acts that don't necessarily follow the same path as them. It's transitional, intimate and challenging, just like the non-remixed version of Minus The Bear. Hey, that's juxtaposition. Sweet.
I can't find any links to selections from this album online, but you can do the easy thing and log onto http://www.myspace.com/minusthebear to hear past works from Minus The Bear, of which you'll be happy to do.
