JASON ENNS - DIG 'FRAGMENTS' - Episode 3

Taking his tech roots to the streets

18 Dec 2024

Filmed and edited by Sandy Carson

Emerging from Winnipeg, Canada in the mid ‘90s, Jason Enns first gained notice for his tech miniramp and park riding abilities. But as Jason’s stature in BMX grew and he began traveling out of central Canada more often, one thing became crystal clear. The skills Jason honed in indoor skateparks across central Canada translated with ease to the streets and outdoor parks of the Southern California and beyond.

After a few sponsor moves, Jason found himself solidly on Volume Bikes in the late ‘90s, also moving from a Canadian distributor sponsorship with etnies to the full-fledged team. During this time, Jason’s riding became fairly common in the pages of DIG. Taking his tech roots to the streets, Jason adapted with ease to switch grinds, grind combinations, and clean, fast lines that oozed style. All of this was captured beautifully by Dave Parrick in the legendary etnies team video ‘Forward.’

Jason also happened to be a subject for one of DIG Magazine's many eclectic cover choices, and his issue 32 cover, featuring Jason riding alongside his dog, remains iconic to this day.

For the third and final installment of our ‘Fragments’ series, Sandy Carson traveled up to Western Canada to spend some time with Jason in his BMX man cave and reminisce about old times with the etnies team and more. If you’re a fan of era-correct Dirt Bros builds, you’ll want to turn off any distractions for the next 8 minutes.
