1. March 28th-29th, 1992: Death in the Desert Thrasherland. Glendale AZ:

Mark Owen got his nickname “Chuck D" because I forgot his real name, but he reminded me of this red head in school who beat me up named Chuck, so I called him Chuck. When he asked why I kept calling him Chuck, I said because he resembled Chuck D from Public Enemy...

2. August 1992: BS Contest. San Jose, Ca:

I knocked myself out on a 900 and got amnesia, but had a great time doing it. It's weird waking up at an event with no memory and people were saying I was running it, and asking me what they should do.

3. November 1992: BS Finals. Stone Edge Skate Park, Daytona, Florida:

I tried a no handed backflip fakie on vert and it hurt. I landed on my wheels though… I just smashed something against my bars that I shouldn't have. If you know what I mean…

4. June 1993: BS Comp #2. Shimmersville Recreation Park, Emmaus Pa:

I did a no hander and hit the ceiling so hard with my hand that I punched a hole through the sheet rock. I did a couple 900 attempts, 180 barspin 540. I had Lightning bolt side burns… I was proud of them.

5. September 1993: BS Comp #3 at my park in OKC Sept 3-4:

I laid a slab of concrete and built my own park. I remember trying this transfer in the street contest that I had been eyeing since we finished building it. I upgraded computers and started running the contests with my computer, but I broke my hand trying a double flip on a small spine (bad idea), and I was the only one that knew how to run the program to add the scores, so I had to type all the scores in one handed and finish the contest before going to the hospital.

6. February 26-27 1994: BS Skate Underground Moreno Valley Contest:

I had to add a “Need To Be" class to the contest because there were so many cherry pickers in the “Soon To Be" class, that I made a class for them. “Need To be" for need to be stunt boy. I scheduled a break during the day and for a joke put a breakdance contest on the schedule and breakers from all over showed up so we cleared off the flat bottom of one of the ramps...

"Woody Itson threatened to have GT sue me because I made Pat Miller ride pro since he rode the X Games the week before and ripped."

7. May 14th and 15th 1994: BS Contest #2. Overland Park, MO:

My first contest back from surgery. We had to rent a hall and assemble all the ramps ourselves, last minute, because the Big Red 1 Skate and Bike park cancelled on me. It was a military base and after confirming, they “thought it wasn't a good idea". All this after flying straight in from a demo in Budapest and it turned out to be the most fun vert comp of my life. It was the first time I rode a comp with Jon Parker. We both did 900's, I did a double tailwhip and tried a triple tailwhip and everyone else just went off... after being up for over 48 hours.

8. September 3rd/4th 1994: BS Contest. Hoffman Bike Park:

I put off surgery on my rotator cuff to do a demo with my 21' tall ramp and cleared 26' feet. Also, this was the first time I saw Day Smith ride and he blew everyone away. I asked him to ride for HB…

9. July 8-9 1995: BS Contest. Hampton, VA:

I made everyone ride to things like the Go- Go's and Tracy Chapman and they hated it. Woody Itson threatened to have GT sue me because I made Pat Miller ride pro since he rode the X Games the week before and ripped.

10. November 17th-19th 1995:

BS Finals. Stone Edge Skate Park, Daytona, Florida: After the contest I made an announcement and told everyone that, “This is the last comp of an era." ESPN started their series after that, and asked me to organize them. The sport had progressed and the next year it was going to be huge, and it was now my job to manage it and keep it tied to its roots. Oh, and I pulled a sketchy double tailwhip...

DATE OF THE LAST CONTEST?

Nov . 17th -19th 1995 BS Finals Stone Edge Skate Park; Daytona, Florida.

HOW MANY WERE HELD?

13, I think.

WHY DID THE FIRST ONE HAPPEN?

To prove our sport is not “dead" and to make a place for the riders by the riders to celebrate BMX.

WHY DID THEY STOP?

The X Games started and I couldn;t get the sponsors to compete with the new contest scene, then they asked me to direct their show to keep it authentic.

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT?

Darcy stole the cop car or when I knocked myself out, lost my memory and I didn't know I was running the contest or when Greg Guillotte flew out onto the top of the Skate shop at the first comp at Jeff Phillips and went through the ceiling or…
