'PROJECT X' - OUT NOW!

I had a few photos from Düsseldorf Uni up on my bedroom wall as a kid. I'd ripped them from the clutches of various issue of DIG and would stare at them as i lay in bed, dreaming of going there on day. Over two decades later i was watching Garrett Reynolds write his own history into the legendary red brick.

Simone Barraco is a guy who strives for quality, not quantity. It's kind of like seeing an endangered species in the wild - if you get lucky enough to witness it, you know it's going to be something to remember. Tabled underside ice on a bizarre Parisian spot, before being brought tea and biscuits from the teachers at the primary school next door. Merci!

In between getting snaked by tin foil and leather clad models posing for Paris Fashion Week, Casey Starling made the most of our short stay in Paris with bar feeble to hard 3.

Why this structure was built is anyone's guess, but we had the right guy for the job with us. Corey Walsh literally turnbing heads with that fold.

The crew went IN on this spot . We must have been here for a couple of hours and it seemed like pretty much everyone got a clip. Felix sure can crank a turndown with the best of them.

Dragon's English is limited (it's much better than our Japanese!) and he would reply, "thank you", to the majority of things you said to him. Even after crashing he would say the same thing. It had us all in stitches. I wish he could be on every trip and not just for his personality, his riding is a sight to behold. Close quarters gap to manual while the whole crew looked on in awe. Garrett joined the trip with an injury, but he adhered religiously to a strict recovery program that required a variety of straps and exercises, and by the second half of the trip he started to ride again - albeit in short bursts. He had to reserve his body for select spots, but when he did switch it on, it was classic Garrett. He made this look effortless.

The day we got into Paris, the news was saturated with stories about a bed bug infestation in the city. Thankfully, we stayed bug free and even got to watch AK go in on this Parisian classic.

Sometimes it takes seeing someone ride in person to really appreciate how talented they are. We already knew Harrison Arcari was incredible on a bike (hence inviting him on the trip), but watching first hand his bizarre ability to get his bike into awkward positions and fit tricks into places they shouldn't be possible was astounding. Precision nose manual under the shadow of darkness.

First off, Girona has SPOTS. Secondly, Boyd Hilder is a WILD MAN. This was like something out of Dave Mirra BMX. Boyds special bar was maxxed out after this massive rainbow rail.

One of the most awkward run-ins know to man wasn't enough to put Joe Foley off this smith. During the smith, a tiny, leathery Spanish man riding a BMX with stickers saying "BMX" running along the downtube showed up, and was beyond stoked on what he just saw. This guy would appear throughout the day and even showed up at the skatepark that night riding a drift trike, with his baby in one arm and a cig in his mouth.

Project X covered over 1500 miles in ten days, and that meant we were usually in and out of cities like we had warrants out for our arrest. I think we were only in Girona for about 8 hours, but the amount of clips that got filmed was out of hand. Casey Starling, gap bars to destroyed back wheel.

Literally a piece of art. Carving its way up from the depths of a field in France, this glow in the dark bowl has some outrageous curves, and was commissioned by the arts centre nearby. Proper road trip stuff.
