Springtime weather in New York City can be very unpredictable—much like the city itself. You never quite know what you’re going to get when you come to NYC, no matter your plans or preparations. This time, I ended up in Brooklyn for the Moto-Bunka & Meseroll Bike Shop Jam(s), spanning Saturday and Sunday with two separate events.
Saturday played out as an all-around neighborhood hangout, with Meseroll Shop hosting us throughout the day—coffee, food, freshly built ramps, and all the classic faces you’d hope to see. As the day filled the ball court with great sunshine and warmth, the cold and cloudy conditions eventually moved in. We dismantled the day’s event just as the sun set, all of us hoping the Banks would be dry for the highly anticipated Brooklyn Banks Jam on Sunday.
After a long Saturday night of catching up with everyone—smashing a few beers and a bacon, egg, and cheese or two—we woke up to a dark and stormy NYC. Sunday was upon us, and the Brooklyn Banks were wet and slippery. Still, that didn’t stop the locals and visiting riders who came to jam and experience the Banks finally being open again after 15 years. As the day progressed, more riders showed up, even as the rain fell—but as you know, ridas’ gonna ride. Through a few soggy hours, the NYC gods finally parted the clouds, and the sun popped out to bring the day to a positive close.
Bikes, friends, jams, video premieres, team trips, solo adventures, legends from all generations and New York City create the perfect recipe for a new jam at a spot that has helped shape BMX culture for decades.
