Matty Aquizap and that Signature Black Magic
A first time visit to the UK trail scene
30 Aug 2018
I was fortunate enough to spend a couple days with Matty Aquizap (and Will Blount) whilst they were over visiting good ol' Blighty. One of the driest English summers we have had in a long time worked out perfectly for a few evening sessions with a guy who regularly goes to the moon! His signature S&M Credence Black Magic comes with slightly beefier tubing for very good reason. Here's a few thoughts from Matty on his frame, English breakfasts, the UK trail scene.. and a full look at his current setup.
The Black Magic frame all came about because I was basically just having Clint Reynolds make me custom frames when he was at the S&M factory. The MOD frame is a little different from the geometry that I’ve basically always ridden, so we decided to just make it a production frame.

What makes the Black Magic frame different is probably the sheer size of it. It’s a pretty big all around frame from the top and down tube sizes to the length of the chain stays. It has a pretty mellow head tube angle of 74 degrees that feels smooth when railing berms and pulling back on jumps.
-
Currently the frame comes in Metallica black, which is a flat black with some subtle metallic flake. I just picked a new color which is kind of a blood red that Moeller named Redrum after a bit in the movie 'The Shining'.
My favorite part of England I visited was all of it! It is such an awesome country and the trail scene there is seriously the best. We got to ride seven different trail spots and that was just scratching the surface. Definitely want to make it back next year and head over to Europe as well.

Man I was all about that proper English breakfast with the sausage, eggs, hash browns, baked beans, tomatoes, and toast! That meal would keep you cutting laps all day in the woods.
-
I would just like to say thank you to all the trail diggers in England that let us ride their spots and all the friends that let us crash on their couches. So stoked I got to finally make it over and witness what could be the best trail scenes i've been to.
