CON-TENT: A Good Old-fashioned Road Trip
Expecting the Unexpected with the 4Down Crew
Words and photos by Fooman
Trips seem to have lost that unexpected element to them. Everyone seems to think a hotel with an actual bed seems to be the norm. I remember reading old magazines and seeing articles about a crew being shoved into the back of a transit van with no real destination in site. The unpredictability of events that will unfold would always lead to a more exciting time.
There were talks of doing a quick weekend away, Tents, two cars a tight nit crew and more than enough brakes to stop a speeding train. The destination? South. Where exactly? No one really knew. The premise of the un-known made the trip that much better, no expectations, just mates, bikes and some shit English weather.
Mozza on the coffee run from the golden arches and Bambi’s expensive colab vans with some far fetched message on them.
Stitched chin and an early A30 wake up for Freddy.
Billy managed to tear his shin up pretty good. Hospital in Midsommer Norton is rapid, maybe because the population is about 10 people but still. Quick response.
"The one plan we did have was to camp in paradise, Kynance cove, Sri Lanka of the U.K. Of course we didn’t leave the park until dark so set up camp on the side of the A30… not quite the Sri-lankan hot spot but it’ll do."
The one plan we did have was to camp in paradise, Kynance cove, Sri Lanka of the U.K. Of course we didn’t leave the park until dark so set up camp on the side of the A30… not quite the Sri Lankan hot spot but it’ll do. Setting the tents up in the dark is the worst too. Not so much for Jimmy and Fred who had the pop up luxury. It goes to show that having plans don’t actually work anyway, roll with it.
This facial expression from Bambi says it all I think.
"...no expectations, just mates, bikes and some shit English weather."
Jimmy and Freddy were both smashing this hip. Classic Rushmore with the one footed flatty!
Boss man, not only king of the coffee runs. Mozza still showing the younger crowd how it’s done. Wall tap on the wobbly fence that sent Freddy to hospital.
I can't actually remember too much of the riding, it was masked by too much laughter. All the riding that took place between the driving probably amounted to a hand full of hours but the laughter and jokes was seriously non-stop. It was refreshing to go backwards and just be amongst a group of mates with no general plan apart from laughing and riding bikes. The way it should be.
Can’t wait for the next one. - Fooman
Taking a break from behind the lens to do my most park move! Mozza on the buttton.
Pop up tents and morning routines. Jimmy had that covered!
Billy Mills with the abubaca in front of the local skate park partygoers that were wrecked on plenty of MDMA and poppers. Good combo.
