Jacob Cable and Alec Siemon are part of the new wave of street riders who grew up riding flat ledges instead of quarters. To the disgruntled, this reformation may seem like heresy. But there’s no denying the talent that the cream of this new generation - whose influencers were likely born after the collapse of the Soviet Union - has brought to BMX.

Jacob and Alec are card carrying Common Crew[ers] hailing from the mean streets of suburban Southern California. I was first exposed to Jacob while on the Odyssey v Miami trip last year, and in a roundabout way Alec on the same trip. His Sunday teammate Aaron Ross was enamored by Alec’s vaping. I watched Jacob ride in person before he came down with a death flu, and a couple months later saw Alec’s riding from his Common DVD part. It was playing in the rental van, and somewhere over the bridge leading into downtown Vancouver I witnessed Alec’s ender. It floored me. Fuck these young kids are good!

Fast forward to a month ago, after dialing in their car situation Jacob and Alec agreed to meet me in downtown LA and cruise for an afternoon. With no lofty aspirations beyond hanging out and shooting some content for DIG, we pedaled around the core of the city and managed to get some riding done. I was able to spend more time with Jacob, and hang with Alec for the first time. They’re both great personalities, which goes without saying seeing the sponsors behind each. Spending half the day workshopping the ins and outs of vlogging (remember, they are 20), and the other half pedaling and hitting some staple spots we had a good time.
