Vagabond Squad out in the streets and theatres

Derek Bolz is notorious for taking artsy photos of his bicycle. This image is no exception. Derek snapped this photo after the film screening.

Most of the riders featured in this photo appeared in the DVD. Krysta Brown-Inch had to stand in the middle of Whyte Avenue—one of the busier roads in Edmonton—to stop traffic and shoot this photo.

Thomas Henderson ran his mouth on the microphone for the jam. His commentary was both amusing and moderately inappropriate. Thomas’s torso and arms may be taped in this photo, but I’m sure there were a few people hoping for tape on his mouth too. The best BMX announcers know how to heckle! Photo: Jesse Baraniuk.

Tilsyn Inch is the youngest and fastest progressing member of the Weird & Revered crew. During the jam, Tilsyn went through the mental battle of doing his first drop off a ledge. After about 45 minutes of taking run-ups and receiving pep talks from his friends and parents, Tilsyn eventually let his wheels fly off the edge. He experienced the full spectrum of emotions that one goes through when trying a new stunt: fear, hesitation, exhaustion, anger, disappointment, accomplishment, and joy. As we pedaled around downtown Edmonton, we passed many spots where clips were documented for the DVD. Standing in front of the infamous Rogers Place double set, Derek Bolz told everyone a quick story on what went into filming the ender for his DVD section. Photo: Logan Kirzinger.

Eamon McCaffrey, along with Kostya Chimkovitch and Slade Scherer, all travelled the furthest to attend the DVD premiere and jam. The boys flew in from Vancouver to hang out for the weekend and enjoy the festivities. Photo: Cary Lorenz.

Canada’s Weird & Revered crew has been hard at work on a full length BMX film entitled, "Vagabond Squad." The film is community rooted with a strong focus on the Edmonton BMX scene. Although a majority of the clips are from their home city, the footage spans 9 countries, 8 American states, and 4 Canadian provinces and territories. After 3 years of filming, the project is now complete. On May 11, the crew celebrated with a premiere and street jam. Here is a taste of what the event looked like, as captured by various members of the Edmonton BMX scene.
