Scene and Not Heard - Mexico City

Wooden kickers, dirt landings, and an endless skyline ripe for exploration...

A few weeks ago, Altius Events of Mexico hosted another homegrown international park/dirt comp in the nation's capital of Mexico City, this one called "BMX Style." If there's one country on the rise with it's own unique contests, it's Mexico. Anyone who's been to Dirt Conquers in Guadalajara can attest to that. The most recent comp wasn't much different. I've been fortunate enough to attend many of these events in the last few years, and instead of packing up and going home the day after it's over, I usually stay a few days or so and cruise with the locals in the nearest city. Mexico City is one of the largest metropolises in the world, and I finally got to pedal around for the first time after this comp. Outside of the overpowering sewer odor occasionally enveloping areas of city in the afternoon (it was really strong), I wasn't let down. The local scene of dedicated riders is bad-ass, the welcoming culture is quite refreshing, and the city seems endless. If the fact that I only got to see such a small percentage of what Mexico City has to offer any indication of what else is there, I can't wait to go back. -RD
